Commercial Solar Suitability and Potential Assessment

Solar Suitability Assessment of the Technology Innovation Centre, Nova Scotia

InNOVAcorp's Technology Innovation Centre (TIC) in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia is a business incubator giving technology entrepreneurs the assistance they need to get their innovations to domestic and world markets more quickly. As a professional building, it faces the challenges of increasing energy costs. The goal of the project was to assess the suitability of the building to solar energy generation and to choose the most cost efficient technology for deploying in the building. The solar energy potential of TIC was assessed and solar water heating system proposed for the first stage of solar technology deployment.

Solar Suitability Assessment of the Joggins Fossil Cliffs Interpretive Centre, Nova Scotia

The purpose of this assessment is to evaluate suitability of the Joggins Fossil Cliffs Interpretive Centre construction site and architectural design for solar photovoltaic (PV) applications, and to estimate the applicability and energy output of a potential PV system. The project surveyed solar energy resource availability on the future Interpretive Centre construction site and general climatology data important for solar PV generation, analyzed the site survey results and existing obstructions to sunlight, assessed positioning of the building from the point of view of solar energy generation and possible ways of its optimization, and determined solar PV generation potential of the building.
